Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story
I saw a preview of this on an earlier rental (I have no idea which) and it bubbled to the top of my queue.
Taking the form of a movie within a movie, the film shows the actors and the characters involved in filming the supposedly unfilmable book, The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman. The book (a real book) is a 9 volume comedy written in 1759 and is jokingly referred to as the first post-modern novel, despite predating modernity by nearly 200 years.
It's an almost all British affair (a cameo by Gillian Anderson being the exception) including the actor that plays Arthur Weasly in the Harry Potter movies - the first I'd seen of him in another context. And there's a lot to like, with funny jabs at the movie making industry, actors in general, period movies especially, and the customs of the actual period, but there is almost no real plot, which I guess could be an attempt at being even more post-modern, but is unsatisfying after sitting through 100 minutes.
7 out of 10 for humor alone.

I just watched the trailer and it looks very interesting. I don't know if it is my type of humor, but I won't know that for sure unless I see the film. I will think about putting it on my que. Thanks for the review.
I'll have to check that out - looks like it could be VERY funny.
