I'm not sure what goes on at other PBS stations across the US, but
this dude is on ours (we have three distinct stations) all the damn time. He is especially ubiquitous at pledge time, though I have no idea why. Why can't they just rerun 5 years of NOVA or Nature during pledge time? Some jackass conductor prancing around in front of an adoring crowd turning otherwise good music into a painful experience of pomposity, only makes me less likely to pledge.
Please make him go away!

PRIMARY RESPONSE:
It seems like we've all discussed this guy before.
Though he's good for a bit of a laugh, I get unnerved by a Pied Piper sort of figure, in whatever guise. And there's something definitely batty and just plain wrong about crowds of adult, misfit geeks gyrating around to classical music in a way nobody - from the original composers to contemporary musicians, intended.
It's like some pitiful, wishful attempt to capture the exuberance of a Southern Revivalist gospel church service. To me it just comes across as sad and lame. And much like with the Riverdance guy or those guys in the mall who play acoustic guitar and "Native American" panflute over synthesized drum loops, my gut reaction is that it is taking an art form that the masses apparently don't think is exciting enough to stand on its own merits, and trying to "21st century" it up.
ALTERNATE RESPONSE:
Like the Riverdance guy, he's obviously making a lot of people very happy.
Happy schmappy!
Manmby Pamby! Cupcake! You need the PBS negotiator. (spoff from the priceline negotiator)
I know some people that could make him go away.
You, if you started doing your 'Rainy Day Nights" stomp.
Just kidding! We love you, T-Clog!!!
