What if you got one of these every day?

Would you modify your lifestyle?

(Inspired by an e-mail conversation between dan and I.)

Not an actual summary of a day of mine - I rarely eat donuts or cut people off in traffic.

No good choices? Why is everything in the bad choices area?

Lots of good choices.

Problem is, there are more bad choices. Yesterday you made more bad choices than good so you started at a deficit. Today you made some good choices (taking that walk at lunch for instance) but they were outweighed by your bad choices.

It's a constant graph of your day - like a stock market trend line. if you did lots of good things you could get it back into net good territory, but for now you're struggling to keep it level. One more Black Angus burger and the vertical scale will need to be revised.

I've often thought that when we die, instead of St. Peter at the gate, we are taken to a debriefing session, not unlike "Defending Your Life". But instead of video clips, we get graphs like these, with charts mapping every day of our existence. We are then taken through summary reports on how well we have lived, including our greatest triumphs, missed opportunities, lowest points, and so on. For example, we are given af full account on all the professions we were offered, and why we should have become one thing versus another. We get metadata on other peoples' perception of us, the qualities and weaknesses that shaped how we were seen by others.

And, of course, the one piece of data that shows just how many degrees we were from ultimate actualization, and why we missed it. (Or, how quickly we obtained it.

That's a pretty twisted view, sort of like a performance review at your job.

St. Peter offering some constructive criticism, at the end of which he always says, "You live, you learn." At this point a choir of angels busts out into Alanis Morrissette.

Completely get it now. Thanks! Where would taking kids lunch money go? Good or bad choice?

Ouch.

Reminds me of my multi-activity graph I made a couple of years ago, tracking my interest in a number of different hobbies over the past twelve months. Yes, making that graph was time well-spent, indeed.
