Night and Day (updated)

Rumsfeld is resigning? NOW? Jesus, Karl Rove is a motherfucking GENIUS!

2 year ago I was in a funk. Not a James Brown/Parliament Funkadelic kind of funk either.

W had been reelected and I couldn't imagine anything worse, and knew we would regret it.

Last night our collective regret made a large step forward.

The era of one party rule, a rule marked by corruption and complete incompetence, and a complete unwillingness to do what's right for the majority of Americans is over. Will Democrats be perfect? Not likely, but unlike Republicans we are not monolithic and we hold our elected representatives accountable.

The house is decided (hopefully we'll add a few more seats as the stragglers come in) and the senate is a light breeze away from complete deadlock (broken by Cheney) or Democrat control. Simply amazing.

Hope shines its light down upon us today.

The AP report this morning stated Bush planned on contacted Pelosi by phone this morning, and that this would be difficult for Bush since he's "not used to defeat."

You gotta feel for the guy.

Voted lastnight but still in a funk because we are choosing between a dooshbag and a turd sandwich everytime. I was watching some Southpark lastnight and they hit the nail on the head for me. I am a dreamer. I look for a canidate with character and intergrity, but all that I am allowed to vote for are bags and turds.

Congrats to the democrates. Maybe we can get some work done? I pray that only good comes from this. We will probably still not accomplish anything because GW will veto everything that comes across his desk. Still in a funk and will probably always be in one when it comes to politics.

It's what you get for living in a representative democracy where the people that are represented are largely uninformed boobs.

Don't forget, though, the breeze of hope that comes with progressives back in the driver's seat. Those are the people that brought you the end of slavery, sufferage, The New Deal, the transportation system, social security, the EPA (actually during the Nixon admin., but spearheaded by progressives), and basically every other positive development in the history of our country.

Or, another way to think of it: the party of war & CEOs is on the way out. Hard not to take heart in that.

Dan, well said and that's the framework I'm using... or rather, the drapes I'm buying.

The other thing I keep in mind in this:

Back in 1999, when I was driving to work, listening to NPR and just learning that Bush Jr. was running for president, I failed to take his run seriously, based on what I felt I already knew THEN (specifically, his Texas governorship, fiscal policy, etc, etc). In 2000, I was stunned as I sat up late, watching the polls close and bore witness to Bush Jr's ascention to power. since 1999, this is the state of mind I've been in. So, last night was big, for me. For now, I have hope.

Not me.

I switched parties in 2000 and voted against Bush in the MA Republican primary. I knew he was a threat.

I've voted against his dumb ass three times.
