Along with everyone who reads this blog, I was extremely invested in the outcome of the election, and with it having turned out as hoped for, I haven't had much to say in this forum.
With no real desire to scrutinize or criticize cabinet appointments (and not out of some irrational deference for the president elect) and nothing especially insightful or urgent to say about the financial collapse, I really haven't had anything to say. Call it the pause after a deep and satisfying sigh.
With that said, I might as well throw a couple things out there...
More than anything about the next four (or eight) years I look forward to competent people acting in good faith running our country. They'll fuck up and do things I don't think are right, but at least they won't be doing so out of specific desire to screw people or because they think that government can't work and that they should just do as much selfish shit as possible before someone catches them. That is how I regard the last eight years.
People need to be held responsible for this financial disaster. This was ENTIRELY avoidable. Assholes that spent the last decade earning 8 figure salaries, predicated on a house of cards built on a cliff in front of a raging wildfire - they need to fucking go to jail. The assholes that facilitated the dismantling of the regulatory framework that protected us from this sort of calamity need to be discredited, or publicly apologize for being so FUCKING wrong.
The world is a pretty fucked up place. Human civilization, when measured across the long scope of our history, could be charted as a slow steady advance toward greater fairness, inclusion and tolerance. Zoom in and you'll see some periods of negative growth, significant setbacks, and amazing disregard for lessons readily available to anyone paying attention. We're at the bottom of one of those periods (I hope at the bottom), having let people with no regard for anything good about humanity in charge or in conflict with one another run the world. Hopefully a return to people that are capable of learning the lessons of history and allow for the decency of humanity setting our course again with put us back on the path to advancement.
We all deserve as much.

It's hard for trickle-down theory to work when there's absolutely no intent of any trickling to take place... and the trickle substance in question is air.
I agree with the sentiment for the most part, except I wouldn't want the holding of people accountable to contribute to any more divisiveness.
I'm curious to see how that segment of people who literally FEARED this man are going to react to the fact that the "final election-related video" Stephen posted does not come to pass; but, in fact, find hime to be steady and conciliatory.
It's already happening to a certain extent...his poll numbers are way higher than his electoral percentage.
There has to be a way to hold people accountable that isn't simply seen as retribution or a partisan witch hunt. Otherwise, we never learn the lesson.
Jeez, half the people involved in the Iran-Contra debacle went to work for Bush/Cheney. Those people were involved in treasonous activities - they should never be allowed in government again.
People like Feith and Wolfowitz? Those people should be discredited into a job at McDonalds.
It would be overly optimistic, I suppose, to hope that a lot of people have already learned the lesson of electing someone that is "just like me."
And, I also suppose, you are speaking of learning a lesson in terms of these actual fuckers paying a price for their evil deeds.
Well, the Bush Legacy program is underway... it'll be interesting to see what people choose to remember.
