Beautiful weekend for a drive - crisp, cool, sunny - everything that fall aspires to be.
Lots of good food was consumed, from the ridiculous to the sublime, mostly leaning towards the latter, and taking advantage of a streak of local food culture in VT.
Much beer was consumed, though spread out over the three days, so no real drunkeness was involved. See almost complete beer list below - check out the ABV on some of the Stone Brewery options. That's some heady stuff.
Burlington seems to be the nexus of all the stereotypes of Vermont, minus the cows. Between the upwardly mobile NJ/NY parents and seasonal guests, and the great unwashed pseudo-hippy masses, it makes for an interesting cultural dichotomy. I was missing a scraggly beard and dirty knit cap to make myself fit in, since I really don't sport the upeardly mobile parent look.
Various Beers:
These consumed at American Flatbread in Burlington, VT.
Stone Brewing (San Diego)
Ruination IPA
Arrogant Bastard Ale
Imperial Russian Stout
Vertical Epic 2007
American Flatbread is almost exactly like the place we had our rehearsal dinner at, for those that participated in that pizza fest. I'm not sure why they feature a San Diego beer with so many local options available, but it was tasty stuff.
Magic Hat - consumed at the brewery itself after a tour.
Lucky Kat Irresistible Pale Ale
Roxy Rolles Amber Ale
Pre-Prohibition Lager
Magic Hat is a local favorite, with their Circus Boy Hefeweizen being my favorite hw.
Other miscellaneous beers consumed:
Dogfish Head IPA (not sure if I had the 60, 90 or 120 minute version)
We stopped in Montpelier on the way home. It feels like a state capital circa 1840. It's a tiny town nestled in a narrow valley, with the most prominent building by far being the state capitol with its glittering gold dome. The town is smaller than the ISU campus, and features a small satellite pseudo-hippy culture.
Primus got several trips to a great dog park, an experience unavailable to us here, where she was overwhelmed by her canine options. She has a funny habit of acting as the referee in other dogs interactions - running up to two dogs that are tussling and barking at the dog that seems to be dominating. On Sunday morning before the drive home, she had her last opportunity and after about 45 minutes of running around she'd had enough and willing got back in the car for a nap.

really sounds like a wonderful weekend - interesting town make-ups as well
Very nice.
Primus must have been thrilled to have been included.
Sounds beautiful. I'm envious.
Must be nice - a trip with sunny fall weather.
You've always been a Magic Hat guy.
Arrogant Bastard Ale is near-legendary, I think, with the B.A. crowd.
Good ol' Primus, don't more than her part to change public perception of the bully breeds.
That's "Doin'" more than her part...
Right.
She's not remotely aggressive - having sustained bites and other injuries from various dogs without inflicting any damage herself.
She always assumes other dogs are friendly and approaches them with boundless optimism.
