It struck me watching Bush at the Olympics that he finally got to live out his presidential dream. Namely, attending sporting events with great honor and getting to meet all sorts of famous athletes.
This from the man whose dream job is/was to be commissioner of major league baseball. If not for September 11, I think we would have had a far less destructive (though still destructive) Bush presidency, and perhaps even more likely, a one term president, as without the fear I don't think he could have won round 2.
Now, just so this doesn't come across as letting the asshole off the hook, he will go down as the worst president in history, but he might have just been a footnote in history.
