Active Hedonism (updated)

Also known as 3 1/2 days with Dan.

The recap:

Saturday -
  • light rail to downtown and a walk around the new bridge construction and miscellaneous urban sites
  • drive to Surly Brewery to pick up growlers (oh yes, they were open!)
  • Papa's pizza - drink beer
  • check out Workhouse Theater, meet Dwayne, drink beer
  • Drink some beer at Casa Hylton (CH), watch Looney Tunes
  • minor trail run along Mississippi
  • back to Workhouse for 'Night Mother - really great.
  • strike set, sort of, then wrap party - only beer for Dan
  • back to Casa Hylton, drink beer watch Looney Tunes (the mad plumber is still there!)
  • sleep
Sunday
  • up for breakfast at Steamworks - waffles and coffee
  • down to Hyland Regional Park for a hike to the pine forest, saw deer and wild turkey
  • over to Minnesota Landscape Arboretum for more hiking
  • Big Buy to look for wallet (Dan....) and b-ball (Dan 2, Pat 1)
  • TB for lunch
  • Surprisingly no beer yet
  • Buy frisbee golf driver (again!) and Dan beats me badly at fg...still don't have the throwing of those other discs down
  • Back to CH - Sharon and 'the girls' return from camping - meet Rose.
  • Out to Rix/Sauced for dinner - at last beer?
  • Read bedtime story to Lucy
  • Music and Mockomentary Volume 3, Part 1. Beer, of course (finishing the growlers)
Monday
  • Walk Lucy to school
  • Breakfast at Emily's
  • Various trips around local metro including into Surdyk's for mini keg of Paulaner (5L)
  • Back to CH with lawn games (croquet and bocci) and beer
  • Beer and lawn games in back yard around fire, lunch of blackened veggie burgers
  • Steamworks for coffee and chess with local 'ute'.
  • B-ball at park (Me 2, Dan 0 with shortened second game due to injury)
  • Dinner at Papa's (yes again, and again with beer)
  • Back for Mockomentary Volume 3, Part 2. Beer (finishing the Paulaner)
  • I think more Looney Tunes in there somewhere.
Tuesday
  • Up for breakfast at McD's
  • Good trail run at French Regional Park. Still able to run them hills.
  • Warm down walk around park
  • Back to CH to clean up
  • More frisbee golf - Dan still dominating
  • Bocci to kill some time before lunch
  • Lunch at Townhall Brewery near UM. Beer
  • Drop at rental car and end of excellent visit
I think I got the outline right. Amazingly, despite drinking nearly 500oz of beer, neither one of us was ever really drunk. Some light buzzing, but otherwise we kept up a slow and steady pace over the course of the weekend, like troopers.

A good time was had by all....

Pictures coming soon.

So, did you guys find time to have any beer? Because you didn't mention it at all.

My belly is still round and taut with it.

First regional park: Hyland. Second regional park: French.

couple other items missed:
- The traditional "friend reading Lucy a bedtime story" ritual.
- Sponge-baths, please?
- Sort of like the mythical "5th Beatle," we had the mythical "3rd friend:" Sharon's dad, Ken, who was at the house seemingly throughout the visit, laboring over water supply pipes. He emerged only from time to time to share his world view and share in the beer. Great moment where, in our absence, he was able to locate and properly dispense some of the Paulaner.

Tremendous visit - so much more fun than can be conveyed in the recap, though the recap does cover the bases pretty well.

Thanks for the visit, my friend. It was all it was cracked up to be. Wish I had time to ruminate more - too busy at work.

Meth in fact did mention the reading to Lucy. You just missed it Dan.

Nope. I (updated) the post with Dan's new info.

very nice - sounds like a good time

glad to hear FG is in your lives

how did the mockumentary go?

C.F. Bear said...

My fault.

Though we were not sloppy drunk, the timing of the Mockommentary installments may have been when we were closest. There were a couple of times when the ol' head nodded slowly down to the chest before I suddenly became alert, realizing I'd not mocked for 5 to 10 minutes.

What I'm saying is that this just may not be up to the Two Towers standards.

Pat said...

I, for one, never nodded. I won't vouch for the quality of the mocking, but it was non-stop.

I did resort to 'working blue' when I had nothing else.

ROTK is a tough mock. The targets are either so easy as to be 'unsportsmanlike' or poignant. There's less grey area in ROTK than in TT.

and the injury - what happened?

C.F. Bear said...

5,000 rubels says Dan rolled his ankle.

Pat said...

No rubels for you!

Dan nearly dislocated his gimpy pinky against my shoulder as I was driving to the hoop.

Although it didn't actually dislocate, we continued our weekend's long tradition of knowing when to call it quits.

If MT or I was there, I could almost promise an injury much faster and probably during the first game of basketball.

On a side note, I am down to 212 from 228. My new weight just happens to be my classroom number.

Pat said...

Way to go fatty!

C.F. Bear said...

I don't deserve any praise for it believe me. Thanks anyway.

Pat said...

Of course you do. It's truly a great thing...keep it up.

excercisin' more? eatin' less? combo of the two? or dumb luck?

For the record - Mixxy & I logged miles of walking (probably 4 or 5 all told) and running (6 to 7) in three and a half days, as well as two rounds of frisbee golf and some basketball. And we STILL probably consumed 3 x the calories as we burned.

No probably about it.
