It's the shoes

Indoor basketball kicked off last week, last night was the second session. I've been trying to stretch out a pair of court shoes until after the trip but listening to my ankles grind as I ran last week inspired me to go to the local discount store (Marshall's) and pick up a new pair of $30 court shoes.

Oh lord, what a difference.

Last night was like running on clouds. No ankle crunching. Nothing but a bounce in my step.

The demise of my old shoes was a strange one. From the outside, including the tread they appeared to be in good shape. No holes. No bits coming loose from the toes or heels, and plenty of tread left. They'd been used primarily indoors, so I think that accounts for the lack of tread wear, but the insides were a mess (it was like they'd been hollowed out) and every bit of padding they ever afforded was gone daddy gone.

It was, perhaps, the best $30 I've spent in a while.

Have you ever considered insoles? You wouldn't have to waste a good pair of shoes, and you could even move them from basketball shoes to running shoes, etc. You could go whole hog with custom orthotics, or just go jellin'.

I use insoles regularly, and I would have considered it in the b-ball shoes but for the hollowing out mentioned. They literally seemed to be developing additional space inside the shoe without the shoe getting bigger on the outside.
