Just in time for the last installment of Harry Potter I finished Oryx and Crake, a tale of a not too distant future exploring the possible dark places our current paths might be leading us.
Basically, in the not too distant future we meet Snowman who, over the course of the novel, flashes back to explain the particularly weird and dire circumstances he finds himself in. Along the way we learn about genetic engineering, climate change, and economic disparity run amok.
I haven't read the more famous of the novels by the author (A Handmaid's Tale) so I have nothing to compare it against. Generally I found it engrossing, and was quite curious to learn what events had transpired to create the current events. Oddly though, there was very little tension in the book. I never felt much in the way of drama - things just unfolded.

Haha, I read A Handmaid's Tale in college. Any guess as to my motovation?!
The book was a good read but the movie was awful awful.
I've been wanting to read this one, so now I should get to it. I now have more free time for other books now that the Big Seven are done.
Big seven indeed.
Obviously we need to wait for the stragglers perhaps, but some sort of HP summary is in order.
