For me it was always The Addams Family. The Munsters was just Herman being stupid and Grandpa being nutty. The Addams Family was hardly subtle but far more nuanced than The Munsters.
A critical view, in retrospect, sees the Adams family as being the superior show. However, you're hardly looking for nuance when you're 10. Well, maybe Mixdorf was, as a result of the influence of older brothers and sisters. For my part, I was a Munsters guy, and the Adams Family seemed odd and slightly disturbing.
In their defense, The Munsters were more straight-up commedia dell'arte.

I've never seen either show. I saw "Adams Family 2" in the theater.
What the HELL?!
Yeah, Stephen. You've got some explaining to do.
Pat: Our play right now is commedia. It's on the brain.
Oh, I know. What my mind imagined was you describing everything as CdA.
Showering. Any of various work related things. Everything.
As a big time tv watcher, I ahve seen both many times. I favor the Adam's Family 9 times out of 10.
Hey, they are creepy and they're cooky!
Steve, get you head out of the books and watch some freaking Nick at Night.
You could hollar back with hey T-clog get your ass out of Nick at Night and read a damn book! :)

The Adams Family movies did trigger what has now become a sideline obsession with Christina Ricci.
