Random theological thought....

Why aren't Noah and his wife given more credit for being our direct forebearers?

EVERYONE that wasn't on the Ark was killed, and so all of us are descended from Noah, who, in sharp contrast with Adam and Eve did exactly what God asked of him, rather than sneaking off and communing with snakes and fruit. (certainly being from Noah is by its nature being from Adam and Eve, but still...)

Noah had three sons (four if you believe the Qur'an - one who chose not to go and so died) and they and their wives repopulated the Earth. Apparently those sons and wives had been more virtuous than everyone else on Earth, though later Ham (one of the sons) had a falling out after seeing Noah drunk and naked (or Ham had sex with his mom) and was cursed.

Noah lived to a ripe old age of 950, 600 before the flood and 350 after.

this is an excellent topic - well yes---everybody killed - just Noah and his wife - a new Adam and Eve - though obviously they continue the chain of Adma and Eve...but your point being that more attention should be given to these two for doing a Adam and Eve type population boom

or was Noah and his wife dinosaurs and Adam and Eve simply strains of DNA

I think that it is given that the entire world was not covered by the flood, but the known world by Mideastern civilization. Maybe some rising sea levels created vast flooding in other part sof the world as well, but I don't think all was covered at once. Not all of the world's creatures could fit in one boat made of gopher wood.

Thus, it is the general thinking that man survived in other regions. The dead sea was not always the brine shrimp haven it is today. There is evidence that settlements were there before the deep dead sea. Or that it is deeper now than long ago.

I say this all because I think this might be part of the reason why we don't give Noah more credit.

I saw a show that attempted to explain the possible origin of the flood myth (they exist in religions throughout time and geography) by showing how there was a point when the Black Sea and the Mediterranean were not connected via the Bosporus (think Istanbul - not Constantinople). At some point water levels rose such that the Black Sea level was raised significantly, to the degree that you can find remains of settlements underwater miles from the current edge of the sea.

This would have been a profound event that would have marked itself in the history of any group that witnessed it, and would have evolved over the centuries into something even more than it was.

But, I think that people who believe in the literal truth of the bible believe that EVERYWHERE was flooded, and everyone other than the 8 people on the ark died.

So much incest in our lineage. All first cousins breeding after the water went down.

That would explain a lot.
