Wandering around at lunch - indeed. Not quite as poignant a shot as I was hoping for once I noticed the old Christmas trees thrown to the curb, but the best I could do in the time alloted.
I'm torn about starting a whole new blog for the project.
Pluses - all consolidated and easy to browse through. Minuses - separated from the 'rest of my life' so to speak.
Feels like leaving it as part of my main blog fleshes out the main one.
I may check out the new templates to see if something trips my trigger. I wish i could manipulate my blog better to have the picture of the day be somewhere else but shown on the side of my main page everyday. may look into that a bit.
If your pictures end up really cool, there may be people in the world that would be interested in seeing them, but not the rest of the details of your life. That's the approach I'm taking, anyway. I would feel better about sharing dansproject365 with near strangers or total strangers than I would The Oliopolis. I may even eliminate the link back from my photo blog, in fact.
I think with the new blogger templates you can do sidebar picture loading. Or, you can use Flickr and put the daily photo somewhere on the side (this is what I do with my 'faux-avatar'; just a random picture generated from my Flickr account.
I agree with Dan, you may just want to go with a whole 'nother blog. I think it actually simplifies things.
having no blog currently, but seriously planning to start one this summer, I have been thinking about the details. I like the idea of having everything to do with a person on his one blog - the picture of the day and Mixdorf's site is very easy - though I know what he means in wanting it as a sidebar. Having no blog currently, I have no place for a photo of the day, but do honestly wonder if I could keep it up with an ounce of artistic integrity for an entire year. I am sure there would be times where I would be annoyed when realizing I haven't yet posted my "picture of the day." Or, throwing up too many stupid pictures not worth anyone's gaze, let alone any comments.
On the other hand, I am also likely to have a My Space as well - thanks to some logic provided by Dan - that would already, essentially be two blogs that would have to be updated and maintained - that goes against any idea of a consolidated internet presence. Maybe, I am still just too green with regard to blogs, high-speed internet connections, and having multiple windows open at the same time.
Just some thoughts. I will look into Stephen's new blog proposal.
MT: It's a spontaneous thing, these blogs. With over a hundred million blogs (I'm guessing) out there, there isn't time to judge the quality of one or two. I figure about 5 people read my blog with any consistency. If I post a picture of my dinner (I just did), it all works in the grand scheme.
Occasionally, you get some attention. USA Today online linked me after the Iowa City tornado last spring. An author of one of the books I read commented on my review of his book. And, Dan Hylton was surprisingly findable. I figured I'd hit the web one night and track down some old friends, and before I knew it, I was reading Dan's life story, chronicled damn near daily. (It helped that Dan uses his full name.)

Nice. Outside "the office?"
Hard to take a bad picture in Newburyport.
You really need to get the PatsProject365 site going. This is gonna get messy.

I gained control of the address I would want - though I'm still not 100%.

The picture is sad. Dan - were you just referring to the scenery?
