Napoleon Dynamite IS Mighty Tom

After being hassled by Mighty Tom to watch Napoleon Dynamite for months, I finally did. I'm guessing he has not followed through on my recommendation of Amelie, but hey, to each his own.

Definitely a good movie, and it is no surprise why Mighty Tom is so drawn to the story, for he, more than any of us, is Napoleon Dynamite. Or at least was. We all were, to a greater or lesser extent, ND, with our incipient nerdliness, but Mighty Tom was overt. The rest of us kept it to ourselves, more, ashamed of who we were.

So, to say that it is insult to make the comparison would be wrong. It is in fact an acknowledgement that he was more willing to be himself than the rest of us, and in the end Napoleon was a winner, and so is Mighty Tom.

Dan wants us to get our shorts and underwear out of his house so that he has more room to put his numbchucks.

So you have seen it too, eh?

Excellent.

You can be Mighty Tom's uncle who longs for those sports glory days.

I don't know if I would say that Gibbs being more willing to be himself was out of some noble origin. He simply was so spaced out he did not know better, which would make him all the more ND-like. Through high school, anyway. As goofy as he still was, the guy was a lot more "aware" than you may think, starting sometime in college. Now we're talking about a guy that will spend $25 on a haircut at a place called "CityLooks."

WAS ND, to be sure.

Am I the only one that didn't like "Napoleon Dynamite?"

I went into the movie hoping for a Wes Anderson/Owen Wilson type of movie, and was greeted with a collection of somewhat amusing one-liners.

I liked it. I like Royal Tennebaums, Rushmore, etc better - mostly because there was more to them, but ND was entertaining.
