Somebody sent me an e-mail today selling t-shirts that were of the 'patriotic' variety, not subtly encouraging everyone in this country to speak English.
Well that's great, too bad the great grandparents of the people selling these shirts aren't alive to swear at them in the non-English language of their choice.
Except for those whose ancestors came from England or some other English-speaking country, the rest of us have ancestors who probably didn't speak English, or spoke just enough English to get by. My great-grandparents came directly from Germany, and I'm not sure they EVER spoke English. Their children spoke more, but still maintained a strong connection to their native language. It wasn't until the second native generation that the language was completely switched over, and through all of this my ancestors managed to contribute to society and generally succeed.
The mountain of irony that threatens to fall on stupid people such as those peddling these damn t-shirts just grows and grows. They are completely oblivious to history and this seems to cloud their understanding of all the thoroughly stupid things they say and do. Their ancestors, like mine, probably didn't speak english either, and while they probably started at the bottom of society, and were looked down on for their lack of English, they perservered, and their children learned English, and their grandchildren learned English, but the stupid fuckers forgot where they came from. God damnit they're stupid.

(your rant will have more credibility if you change it to "they're" stupid)
Another bit of irony in the situation is that the guy they're so happy to put in the Oval Office has enough of his own problems. the language.
Mixdorf, I will sell you a t-shirt that says, "Fuck people are stupid!" :)
Not wearing those t-shirts around the house, I'll wager.
I don't have one. I will make you one and sell it to you. I am playing off of your message about people who sell t-shirts that say stupid things. It must have slipped under your radar.
